17th January 1984.

Bro David Ross Black presiding together with the Brethren and Office Bearers as per attendance Book.

The Lodge was opened in due and solemn form.

Mr Scot Fraser MacKenzie No 83 was made an Entered Apprentice Freemason Signed the Roll of Members and was welcomed by the Brethren.

The RWM informed the Brethren of the passing of Bro Donald Cattarnach to the Grand Lodge above and the Brethren stood in silence as a mark of respect to departed merit.

Bro Treasurer informed the Brethren that since Mrs Norma Miller had taken over the duties of Caretaker there was a an appreciate improvement in the appearance of the Lodge.

 

21st October 1984.  

Minute of a Lodge of Sorrow held within the Celtic Chapel in the Lawnmarket.

On Sunday 21st October 1984 at 2:30pm to the Memory of Brother Thomas King Francis PM and Other Past Masters and Brethren who have passed to the Grand Lodge above.

The Lodge was passed and thereafter raised.

The Brother Director of Ceremonies introduced a Deputation from the Grand Lodge of Scotland headed by Brother Lt/Cdr Richard S Beveridge RN RTD Chairman of the Metropolitan District Committee and accompanied by Brother Gordon Smart Member of Grand Committee Accompanying the Grand Lodge the Deputation was headed by Brother Alan Knox PM of the Eldon Lodge No 3187 EC representing the Grand Lodge of England.

 

The RWM presented the Gavel the emblem of authority to Brother Beveridge reaffirming the fealty and loyalty of the Celtic Lodge to the grand Lodge of Scotland Brother Beveridge returned the Gavel to the RWM in order to proceed with the Funeral Lodge Service.

Brother Secretary read a letter from The Greyfriars Tollbooth and Highland Kirk inviting the Brethren of the Lodge to attend the annual St Andrew-tide service in Greyfriars Kirk on Sunday 25th November 1984 at 3:pm.

Bro Thomas Alan Wishart No 85 was raised to the Sublime Degree  of a Master Mason and welcomed by the Brethren.

 

Brother C Fisher PM reminded the Brethren of the Scottish Dance being held in the Lodge on 15th November 1984.

Brother T Millar IPM informed the brethren of the details of the Annual deputation to the Eldon Lodge No 3187 EC.

Brother W Black PM proposed and Brother A Murray seconded a motion that a cablegram is sent to Lodge Accb on the occasion of their 125th Anniversary.

The usual charges and regulations were read and ascended to by Brother R S Beveridge and Bro William Calder thereupon took the Oath.

Thereafter Brother William Calder was Installed as the Right Worshipful Master. 

The Board of Installed Masters being closed the Lodge was resumed The Charter was entrusted to the RWM for safe keeping and copies of the Constitution and Laws of the Grand Lodge of Scotland and the Lodge Special Bye Laws were Presented to the RWM.

The RWM Presented Brother David Ross Black PM with the Jewel of IPM.

The RWM nominated Brother Alistair Easson PM as his Depute.

The RWIM then Address the RWM Wardens and Brethren and Presented the Mallet to the RWM.

The RWM Presented the Mallet to Brother R S Beveridge who addressed the Brethren saying how delighted he was to be with us on this special occasion with the Celtic Lodge during the past year.

The Secretary read a letter from Grand Secretary in support of Grand Almoners Appeal to Daughter Lodges with regard to the Special Collection in Aid of the Benevolent Funds of Grand Lodge in terms of Law No 171.

There being no further business the Lodge was closed in due and solemn form.

The minutes of the Committee Meeting of the 13th January 1987 were read and approved.

It was resolved that a Country member of the Lodge should reside at a distance of 25 miles or more from the Lodge.

Brother A Easson PM agreed to approach Brother R Marshall in order that the Lodge is updated with the progress being made with the preparations for the spring Fair.

It was decided that the Question of either repairs to the present Organ or the purchase of a new Organ be left in the hands of Brothers G Spiers RWM and J Havery PM.

The Committee resolved that:-

1          A ticket for the Installation Ceremony of Grand Lodge be purchased by the Lodge for the RWM.

2          Brother Secretary would approach Brother Arthur Owen Hazel Grand Secretary to enquire whether he would be available on 31st March 1987 to show slides of his recent trip to India with the Grand Master Mason.

The Meeting would be made open to Brethren from Sister Lodges.

3          The cost of tickets for the dance on the 3rd April 1987 be priced at £3:50

4          The windows and doors of the Thistle Room to be repaired.

5          The Curtains be cleaned and proofed during May.

            The proposal that a public address system be purchased was rejected

Bro G Shiels IPM proposed and Bro W Black PM seconded the adoption of the amended Bye Laws Bro J Swanson PM proposed and Bro J Grant PM seconded that these should include that portion of Law 125 which states that members who have reached the Age of 65 years and paid their annual contributions for 15 years should pay a reduced Test Fee.

This had been included in the original Bye Laws of the Lodge and omitted from the amenddments the Bye Laws were approved with this inclusion was approved.

The RWM Presented the Mallet to Brother Arthur O Hazel who addressed the Brethren saying how delighted he was to be with us on this special occasion with the Celtic Lodge during the past year.

The Secretary read a letter from Grand Secretary in support of Grand Almoners Appeal to Daughter Lodges with regard to the Special Collection in Aid of the Benevolent Funds of Grand Lodge in terms of Law No 171.

There being no further business the Lodge was closed in due and solemn form.
