An enquiry from Yvonne Roberts about her Great Grandfather led to Bro Bill Boland PM Lodge Historian, relaying Information to each other as Follow's:-

Hello Bill

Thank you so much for your speedy reply and for the information you attached. It was very interesting to read it. I was intrigued to know who John Alexander Yule was so spent a little time last night looking him up. I think some how he was maybe related to my G Grandfather.

John A Yule was born in 1837 and in 1861 he was an assistant surgeon on board a Royal Navy ship. He died at sea in 1866 returning from China. His father, John Yule, was a writer to the signet.

David S E Bain was born in Thurso in 1823, he was an apprentice apothecary in his father's business. He took 3 months out to attend the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. On completing his apprenticeship he joined the army as a surgeon. He spent time in St Kitts (where he married his 1st wife) India, Canada and the Crimea. He was at Scutari at the same time as Florence Nightingale. Through researching on the Internet we discovered that his surgeons case is held by the Florence Nightingale museum in London.
